Mini Special

Ralph’s own special – sadly now deceased. It started life as an 850cc Mini-Van but was quickly transformed with a ‘Clubman’ one-piece steel front end and ‘Traveller’ side windows.

The 1750cc (much modified Maxi) engine developed over 100bhp at the wheels (around 125bhp at the crank). It utilised twin down draft weber carburetors and a custom built stainless steel big-bore exhaust. Piper gas-flowed head, Piper 285 cam shaft profiles, bottom end balanced, tuftrided and lightened.

Hand-built digital instruments and overhead switch panel completed the interior.

Suspension consisted of ‘Hi-Lo’ units with negative camber all round.

Sills and floor pans completely replaced in stainless steel. Twin fuel tanks completed the package giving it exceptional range for a mini.

Plus endless details…

Ralph swears that what he couldn’t catch in a straight line he could always catch in the bends!

Yeah… yeah…
